Health Chocolate versus Chocolate Candybars

It may be apt to say that for many people, perhaps even most, who do not have a major health problem such as diabetes, chocolate itself is so healthful that even consuming chocolate in the form of candy may be better than eating none at all. The reason is that cocoa solids, the raw material from which all chocolate confections must, at least in part, be made is so very healthful.

A Remedy for the Junkfood – Obesity Connection

Studies show conclusively that junkfood marketing and consumption are major factors leading to childhood and adult obesity. Excessive amounts of sugar, salt and fat are the headline components of what we term “junkfood” because these are overabundant in our diet, crowd out other beneficial and less abundant nutrients, and are craved by most of us. They are therefore easy for food marketers to sell.

Perhaps a remedy for the junkfood-obesity problem is to encourage food marketers to sell us healthy versions of “junkfood” instead. For example, low-carb dark chocolate treats rather than the junkfood versions of the confection. Even though we consumers would be receiving far less unhealthy fats, sugar and salt, the chocolate is still satisfying.

I’m very excited to announce that my new book Chocolate, Healthfood of the Gods is going to be released early June, 2011. Let me introduce this labor of love.

The title of my book, Chocolate, Health Food of the Gods is taken from the Greek name for chocolate which can roughly be translated as “God’s food”, “the divine food”, “food for the gods”, or “food of the gods”. Any way you translate it, the meaning is clear: this foodstuff chocolate is special. Really special and valuable to our health and our taste buds. Keep reading…
