A Remedy for the Junkfood – Obesity Connection

In chocolate, diet, low carb diet, prevention diet on August 31, 2011 at 9:15 am

Studies show conclusively that junkfood marketing and consumption are major factors leading to childhood and adult obesity. Excessive amounts of sugar, salt and fat are the headline components of what we term “junkfood” because these are overabundant in our diet, crowd out other beneficial and less abundant nutrients, and are craved by most of us. They are therefore easy for food marketers to sell.

Perhaps a remedy for the junkfood-obesity problem is to encourage food marketers to sell us healthy versions of “junkfood” instead. For example, low-carb dark chocolate treats rather than the junkfood versions of the confection. Even though we consumers would be receiving far less unhealthy fats, sugar and salt, the chocolate is still satisfying.
